Black Cat Crossing by Kay Finch

I love lots of things, as you know. I love cats. I love mysteries and I jut love getting into a new mystery series right at the start! I most especially love it when it is as packed with story as Black Cat Crossing, the first Bad Luck Cat Mystery, by Kay Finch.

From the back of the book:

In the first in this cat-filled cozy series, aspiring mystery author Sabrina Tate is about to discover that when it comes to solving murders, her new feline friend Hitchcock is a master of sleuthing…

Sabrina has never been the superstitious type. Still, when she moves to Lavender, Texas, to write her first novel and help her Aunt Rowe manage her vacation rental business, Sabrina can’t avoid listening to the rumors that a local black cat is a jinx—especially after the stray in question leads her directly to the scene of a murder.

The deceased turns out to be none other than her Aunt Rowe’s awful cousin Bobby Joe Flowers, a known cheat and womanizer who had no shortage of enemies. The only problem is that Aunt Rowe and Bobby Joe had quarreled just before the cousin turned up dead, leaving Rowe at the top of the long list of suspects. Now it’s up to Sabrina to clear her aunt’s name. Luckily for her, she’s got a new sidekick, Hitchcock the Bad Luck Cat, to help her sniff out clues and stalk a killer before Aunt Rowe winds up the victim of even more misfortune…

My thoughts:

I will always have a weak spot for black cats. They are some of the sweetest and lovable furbabies. This story has a big black cat, Hitchcock, who is believed by the silly locals to be bad luck. But I don't want you to think this story is all about a black cat! No, this story is packed with everything you want in a cozy.

I loved the feisty Aunt Rowe best. I can see where our heroine Sabrina gets her spunk and she is a spunky fun one.  Peppered alongside these two is also a lovely cast of supporting characters that I can't wait to get t know better in other parts. Sabrina has her hands full with her own writing deadline and trying to get to the bottom of  a murder that is twisted up in family, lies, and hidden affairs. I loved the depth of story and characters and absolutely cannot wait to sink my teeth into the next part as well as the recipes in the back of this part.

Take some time to browse the other great mysteries available from Berkley Prime Crime. While you are there, you can sign up for the newsletter so you never miss a new release. I must warn you though, after browsing my wish list is longer than I could probably read. You can also connect with them on Twitter where you can happen across a fun giveaway as well.
