I am a sucker for a book that has cats! I have been a cat person for, well... always. There is a magical quality to cats. And in Faux Paw by Sofie Kelly there are truly magical qualities to the cats! This fabulous book is the seventh part in the Magical Cats Mystery Series.
From the back of the book:
Magical cats Owen and Hercules from A Midwinter’s Tail are back and ready to help librarian Kathleen Paulson pounce on a killer art thief…
Normally, the arrival of an art exhibition at the Mayville Heights library would be cause for celebration. But thanks to the overbearing curator and high-tech security system that comes with it, Kathleen’s life has been completely disrupted. Even Owen and Hercules have been affected, since their favorite human doesn’t seem to have a spare moment to make their favorite fish crackers or listen to Barry Manilow.
But when Kathleen stops by the library late one night and finds the curator sprawled on the floor—and the exhibition’s most valuable sketch missing—it’s suddenly time to canvass a crime scene. Now Kathleen, her detective boyfriend Marcus, and her clever cats have to sniff out a murderous thief, before anyone else has a brush with death…
My thoughts:
While this is a part seven, I was easily able read it as a stand along story having no prior experience with the series. There were so many fun personalities here, cats included, that readers are bound to bond with and that makes for such great reading! I really loved the handling of the magical aspects of the cats, too.
I wasn't able to solve the windy mysteries of the theft and murder before it was revealed, but I found that as it unraveled, it was fully satisfying. I loved following the clues and taking every twisting corner as I turned pages... well into the night. The best part is that since there are six parts I haven't read, I will have plenty to stay busy with while I wait for the next part. I recommend you jump right in and get yourself a copy of this fun, magical mystery.
