Cozies and pets seem to be a natural fit and I love all kinds of pets. Cats and dogs are my favorite, so when I saw Murder Most Howl by Krista Davis had both, I was tickled and excited! This is part three in the Paws and Claws mystery series that found a fast place on my top reading list.
From the back of the book:
The New York Times bestselling author of The Ghost and Mrs. Mewer and The Diva Steals a Chocolate Kiss returns with a tail of a ruff winter…
This January, Wagtail, Virginia, the top pet-friendly destination in the country, is throwing a fun murder mystery weekend—but no one expected the real thing...
Holly Miller is delighted her grandmother has finally left the Sugar Maple Inn to take a well-deserved vacation. It means Holly’s in charge, but running the inn might be more challenging than she realized. Wagtail’s throwing a weekend-long murder mystery game to draw in tourists during the slow season, the inn has a full house, and a blizzard is on the way.
Trouble is unleashed the night the game begins, when the storm blows in and the lights go out. It gets worse the following morning when Holly’s Jack Russell terrier, Trixie, discovers a body—one that’s actually dead. Now Holly, her calico kitten Twinkletoes, and Trixie must play by the rules and find one dirty dog...
My thoughts:
My husband and I seldom take vacations because we have a house full of furry family that we can't find fitting accommodation for. That wouldn't be the case if we went to the pet-friendly Sugar Maple Inn. I love that the whole town is pet themed. In this town are wonderful people that I am excited to get to know.
The mystery is not part of the planned mystery weekend the town is having. Throw in a snowstorm, budding romance, etc and things get really fun. One neat thing was that even with the action and intensity of a murder to solve, there was a fun feel and humor throughout. I will certainly be reading the other parts in this series and keep my eyes peeled for future installments.
Plus, there are recipes for humans and their furry family in the back.
