‘The Fast Metabolism Diet’ by Haylie Pomroy

I make it no secret that I struggle with my weight. I am a chronic dieter and have had a fair amount of success.  However with my success also came some failure. I think in all of dieting and calorie restrictions I might have messed up my metabolism. When I tried to finish my diet using the same method that worked before I had no results. Needless to say I was very disappointed and a little worried about where to go from here.

As if to answer my question I was sent a book to review. Now I usually pay no mind to ‘diet’ books because they are usually based on dodgy science, if any science at all. ‘The Fast Metabolism Diet’ by Haylie Pomroy is not about a diet. It is about using real, good, food to heal the damage you have done to your metabolism. I like that. And as someone who has been on a 1300 calorie a day diet the idea of not counting calories anymore is very appealing.  Haylie Pomroy was recently featured on the Dr. Oz show, and has helped thousands of clients lose up to 20 pounds in just four weeks -all through the fat-burning power of food.

The book is laid out in a way that is very user friendly and presents information in manageable amounts. I like the 'down to earth' tone of the author and I really like the idea of not having to diet again.  The eating plan is super generous and you certainly will not be hungry while you are healing your broken metabolism. If you are a vegetarian, like me, the two days a week of protein might be a struggle since eggs are the only option, and while I like eggs, five times a day, for two days, may test my limits. If you are not a vegetarian it sounds like even those days will be wonderful and full of variety.

Here is the general idea of the plan.
• Phase 1 (Monday–Tuesday): Lots of carbs and fruits
• Phase 2 (Wednesday–Thursday): Lots of proteins and veggies
• Phase 3 (Friday–Sunday) All of the above, plus healthy fats and oils

So I know you want to know, did I make it the whole 28 days and did it work. I did make it the whole 28 days, I have amazing willpower. I did see results, I lost 12 pounds. I think I might have lost more if I hadn't already been drinking the right amount of water because that can account for some big loss when you first adjust that. Also, with the exception of breakfast and my last snack of the day, all of my meals were already on the okay foods listed in the back of the book. Like I said before the only real downside is the two days a week where I had to eat so many eggs that I think I won’t eat another for a very long time.
