Dark Chocolate Demise by Jenn McKinlay

Where are my cozy fans? You’ll want to stop and take note because a delicious new book is out from the New York Times bestselling Cupcake Bakery Mysteries and Mel and Angie are in for a fresh batch of trouble…

From the back of the book: Scottsdale, Arizona, may not be the liveliest place on earth, but it’s never been as dead as this. Hundreds of fans have gathered together for the first annual Old Town Zombie Walk, and Mel, Angie, and the Fairy Tale Cupcake crew are donning their best undead attire to sell some horror-themed desserts to the hungry hordes.

But the fun turns to fright when Mel finds a real dead body in a prop casket outside of the bakery’s truck—and the corpse looks alarmingly like a zombie of their own. Knowing that Joe, Angie’s brother, and Mel’s former flame, has been working on a dangerous mob case, Mel worries that the murder is a hit gone wrong and that someone near and dear was the real target. To keep any of her friends from winding up six feet under, Mel will do whatever it takes to find a killer—no matter how scary things get...

MY REVIEW

This series has become a fast favorite of mine because of the fabulous characters and setting. There are so many rich and likable characters here that I truly do feel like I am sitting down with old friends each time I start a new part.

Being a zombie fan as well, the setting, a zombie walk, was pretty cool, well that is until a real dead body turned up and things got scary for Mel and Angie, and of course dear Joe. I was happy to see Manny again. I like what he brings and, of course, Marty and Oz are always a joy as well.

The pacing was perfect and the excitement in this part was palpable. It is the kind of book you will want to read cover to cover carrying it with you while you walk, cook, etc. so you can grab another page whenever time allows.

Jenn Mckinlay is one of my favorite cozy authors and has hit it out of the park again with her latest Dark Chocolate Demise. Oh, you won't want to forget to check out the awesome cupcake recipes at the back of the book! I mean it! Seriously, every thing I have baked from her recipes has been a delicious success.

This was just released on the 7th and is sure to be a huge hit so you’ll want to order your copy from your favorite book seller today.

Take some time to browse the other great mysteries available from Berkley Prime Crime. While you are there, you can sign up for the newsletter so you never miss a new release.
