Dream a Little Scream by Mary Kennedy

When I saw the title Dream a Little Scream, part two in the Dream Club Mystery series by Mary Kennedy, being a horror fan as well as a cozy mystery fan, I did a double take. Fear not my cozy fans, not only is it cozy but it is one of the most original cozies you will have ever read.

From the back of the book:

The national bestselling author of Nightmares Can Be Murder once again gathers together the members of the Dream Club in Savannah, Georgia, where the book tour of a famous chef becomes a recipe for disaster…

Behind her down-home folksy persona, celebrity chef Sonia Scott is a real Dixie diva who’s made plenty of enemies in her climb to the top of the culinary world. One of them is the newest member of the Dream Club, Etta Mae Beasley, who claims Sonia stole her family’s recipes and used them in her latest cookbook.

After Sonia’s suspicious death from anaphylactic shock at a book signing held at Taylor and Ali’s retro candy store, Etta’s revelation sows seeds of doubt in Taylor Blake’s mind. Now the Dream Club needs to put their heads together to determine if one of their own decided to give the chef her just desserts…

My Thoughts:

First, I have to say a dream club is such a neat idea and so original to the cozy world. I instantly fell in love with the idea and the neat group of diverse dream clubbers. Boy, the victim Sonia sure was a diva, which as you might have guessed made for lots of enemies, including one of the dream club members.

This was a twist-filled read that made it really fun and also made it a challenging mystery to solve in a very good way. It took me the whole book to figure it out and I enjoyed every second of it. I absolutely have to go back now and get the first part as this is the kind of series you don't wont to miss a word of and that you hope carries on full steam for many, many more parts. There was even a dream symbol guide in the back of the book which was neat.

Take some time to browse the other great mysteries available from Berkley Prime Crime. While you are there, you can sign up for the newsletter so you never miss a new release. I must warn you though, after browsing my wish list is longer than I could probably read. You can also connect with them on Twitter where you can happen across a fun giveaway as well.
