Gossamer Ghost by Laura Childs

A few of my favorite things are included in the latest twelfth part of the Scrapbooking Mystery series, Gossamer Ghost by Laura Childs. New Orleans is my favorite city to visit. Halloween is my favorite holiday and, as a bonus, there is also a mystery to solve!

From the back of the book:

Carmela Bertrand knows that Halloween in New Orleans means a week of rabble-rousing, costumed craziness—and she can’t wait to get the party started. But when a local antiques dealer turns up dead, Carmela suddenly finds herself in a real-life danse macabre…

An evening’s work deciding on the class schedule for her scrapbooking shop has put Carmela in the mood to kick up her heels. But after some strange noises draw her into Oddities, the neighboring antiques shop, Carmela’s night is abruptly put on hold when a bloody body falls out of a curio cabinet—and into her arms.

While shop owner Marcus Joubert was known for being an eccentric with a penchant for eclectic merchandise, Carmela never thought he was the kind of man who could inspire the passion required to kill. But when Marcus’s assistant—and fiancĂ©e—Mavis reveals that a priceless death mask was also stolen, it becomes clear that murder wasn’t the culprit’s sole intention.

Carmela can’t resist the urge to investigate the growing mystery, but as the list of suspects increases, she realizes it’ll take every trick in the book to unmask the killer thief before there’s another night of murderous mischief…

My thoughts:

The setting, as I said, is one of my favorites and is told with such rich detail that even if you have never been to New Orleans, you will feel like you have and easily sink into it's one of a kind feeling. Now, as a crafter, I also should mention that you will find some really sweet craft tips and ideas as you go along. Since Halloween is my favorite holiday, I was just so tickled by this aspect.

The back of the book is loaded with goodies, scrapbook tips, recipes, and even a teaser for the next part which looks to be just as much fun.

Take some time to browse the other great mysteries available from Berkley Prime Crime. While you are there, you can sign up for the newsletter so you never miss a new release. I must warn you though, after browsing my wish list is longer than I could probably read. You can also connect with them on Twitter where you can happen across a fun giveaway as well.

Disclosure: I may receive products in exchange for an honest review. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I personally believe will be good for my readers.
