Dead With the Wind by Miranda James

I am southern and there is something about the spirit of a southern woman, especially an older, southern woman. Perhaps that common ground is why I fell in love with Ducote sisters from Dead With the Wind by Miranda James. This is the second part the Southern Sisters mystery series.

From the back of the book:

The New York Times bestselling author of Bless Her Dead Little Heart and the Cats in the Stacks mysteries brings back the Ducote sisters, two spry Southern sleuths.

An’gel and Dickce Ducote tend to stay put in Athena, Mississippi, but a wedding is a good reason to say a temporary farewell to Charlie Harris’s cat Diesel and go visit relatives. But while their stay in Louisiana is scorching hot, the atmosphere at the wedding is downright cold, with bride-to-be Sondra Delevan putting her trust fund above little things like love and loyalty.

When a violent storm supposedly sweeps Sondra off a balcony to her death, the sisters discover that many of the guests attending the wedding had major reasons to object to Sondra’s marriage. Now, it’s up to An’gel and Dickce to use their down-home instincts to expose dubious alibis, silver-plated secrets, and one relentless murderer who lives for “till death do us part.”

My thoughts:

I talk a lot about characters in my reviews because a good character can make a story. This story has two great characters that made it a joy to read. I love strong southern women, probably because I am one. The two sisters in book are just fabulous and seemed totally in control, even with everything going on around them.

There is a lot going on in the story. In fact, most of the story takes place before there is even a mystery to solve. However, once there is a body, there is also plenty of suspicion to go around. The reveal was a hoot to read! I don't think I have ever been so amused reading a wrap up like that before. I cannot wait to follow the sisters on their next adventure. You'll not want to miss this fun read!

Take some time to browse the other great mysteries available from Berkley Prime Crime. While you are there, you can sign up for the newsletter so you never miss a new release. I must warn you though, after browsing my wish list is longer than I could probably read. You can also connect with them on Twitter where you can happen across a fun giveaway as well.

Disclosure: I may receive products in exchange for an honest review. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I personally believe will be good for my readers.
