Lion Brand Heartland Yarn

If you follow me at all, here or on my personal Facebook page, then you know I am a little yarn obsessed. I spend at least an hour a day working on my projects, often more. I have tried a lot of different brands and types of acrylic yarn since it is my favorite to work with and in general with some moderate differences in texture and softness they are mostly the same.. Or so I thought.

I received a lovely sampling of yarn from Lion Brands and in the box was the Heartland acrylic and, wow, I mean seriously! This yarn is so awesome! If you are a yarn lover you know all about what it is to squish the yarn to see how plush it is. Well after the initial squish I was just so excited to get started working with this.

It was just such a joy to feel this extra soft yarn gliding over my finger and know that the recipient of this scarf was really in for something special. I found a stitch I liked and quickly whipped up one skein pattern, which you will find below. Throughout the entire process I kept thinking about how much softer this is than a typical acrylic.

On top of being softer, I found none of the usual knots, no size changes at the start or end, and the yarn never once split or looked loosely wound. The color was a beautiful consistent smoky grey called Great Smokey Mountain.  Heartland comes in a lot of really stunning colors as well. I had to grab some Denali, which is a lovely pink.

This is 100 percent acrylic and really has the feel of a luxury fiber, it is a medium 4 so it will be a great fit for most projects and a very versatile yarn overall. I personally think it has the perfect amount of tension for scarves, motifs, and hats. And, of course, the best part is that it is washer and dryer safe on the right settings.

I have found Lion Brand yarn at my shops and if you, like me, don’t have many craft supply options you can visit Lion Brand online and purchase their great yarns online. While you are there look around because they have a lot of great yarn art resources, including some stunning free patterns You can also follow Lion Brand on Facebook and Twitter.

  6. The scarf is really pretty, but where I live nobody really wears scarves because it hardly ever gets cool enough.
