Suede To Rest by Diane Vallere

Oh my sweet mystery lovers, I found a great new series! I just love getting in the first part! Don’t you just love the crafty sound of A Material Witness Mystery? I did too and the book Suede To Rest by Diane Vallere was a fabulous first part that left me excited to see where the series will go.

The basic premise from the back of the books is: When Poly Monroe was little, she loved playing in her family’s textile store. But after a fatal family tragedy, Land of A Thousand Fabrics was boarded up and Poly never expected to see the inside again. Now, as inheritor of the long-shuttered shop, she’s ready to restore the family business. However her two new kittens, Pins and Needles, aren’t the ones causing a snag in her plans…

Not everyone wants Poly back in San Ladrón, especially a powerful local developer pressuring her to sell—and leave town fast. But even when the threats turn deadly, she’s not ready to bolt. Because Poly is beginning to suspect that the murder behind the shop is tied to a mystery in her family’s unsettled past that she’s determined to solve…before her own life is left hanging by a thread.

My Thoughts: I liked this first book in a new series. Poly is very likeable and at the end of the story I felt like I really wanted to continue to get to know her, as with most of the supporting characters.  There are plenty of people introduced to keep the story moving and Vaughn and Charlie really caught my attention. I can‘t wait to see what happens with them in future parts. Vaughn is totally charming and, in my opinion, a much better match for Poly than her boyfriend will ever be. ;)

Suede to Rest was an easy and totally engaging read which I blew through in one day.  It was really hard to put down! It had all of the elements I like in a mystery, lots of twists, great characters, and a conclusion that was plausible without being predictable. Oh and cats, I just love cats! I am totally hooked and can’t wait to see what materializes in the next part!

Take some time to browse the other great mysteries available from Berkley Prime Crime. While you are there, you can sign up for the newsletter so you never miss a new release. I must warn you though, after browsing my wish list is longer than I could probably read.
