DMC Has Everything You Need For Needlecrafts!

It hasn’t been too long since I told you I wanted to venture into cross-stitch and needlework. Aside from patterns and craft ideas, which are in abundance online, I needed some supplies. You know, threads and cloths to stitch on. If you have ever done anything like this, you have probably heard of DMC. My past experiences, which were very long ago (and I won’t say how long) were all good. I had used some threads to make counted patterns from kits and I remembered they had an awesome variety of great quality threads.

When I looked at the website and saw what they offer now I was blown away! They have everything you could ever want for needlecraft, I mean it!! Today I want to talk to you about some of the varieties I was sent to try out.

First there was a lot of the traditional white cloth. This can be cut to make all sorts of sizes and designs. I have even seen some crafty ladies use it as a center for a pillow with lovely results. The possibilities are endless with the white backdrop.

If you want something with some color to it, there are so many to pick from. I was sent a 14 count Aida in a natural tan shade that has metallic silver running throughout and it is so fabulous! The metallic gives it a real sparkle that can't be seen in the pictures I took. I already have a gift idea for this beautiful cloth. If you don't have an idea, it even comes with a free design pattern that would be perfect for a cushion.

I have a counted beach pattern I am eyeballing and the Charles Craft Gold Standard Cross Stitch Fabric in Natural is going to be perfect! Some of the shades they offer really are perfect backdrops that will save you having to stitch on an off-white or beige background. It is also a 14ct Aida and is 12”x18”. So a perfect size to frame.

If you are new to counted designs, or maybe you have bad eyes like me, then the Magic Guide Aida is going to be a fast favorite. This fabric has a grid on it that is equal to ten on the design charts! That is awesome. I can’t even tell you how many times I lose count when trying to span larger gaps. I have even had to undo projects because of miscounting. What is really neat is the grid washes right off in your washing machine.

Speaking of really neat, what would you say to a soluble canvas!? Imagine now you can perfectly align your designs on clothes or fabrics with the help of a 14 ct grid and when you are done put it in water and the grid cloth will dissolve leaving you just the design on your fabric! That is too fabulous! I am so in love with this idea and now I can make patterns on fabrics like a long-time professional.

Now that you have your cloth ideas in order, it’s time to look at some of the flosses and threads available. I want to start with the cotton floss. This is made from 100% long staple Egyptian cotton and is double mercerized for brilliant sheen. I love that it is colorfast and fade resistant but I think best of all is the variety. It comes in 454 solid colors and 18 variegated colors. Just look at the range in the four I have. A vibrant neon yellow, metallic gold, lovely light blue and even a variegated shade in fall tones. There is really a shade for every project you can imagine.

There is also Pearl Cotton in two sizes; size 3 perfect for needlepoint, creative stitchery and embroidery, plus it works well on plastic canvases, and size 5 for cross-stitch, embroidery, needlepoint, hardanger, blackwork, redwork, punch needle, pulled thread, smocking, applique and many types of creative stitchery. This is a highly mercerized, non-divisible, lustrous, 100% cotton thread on a twisted skein. This thread is so soft and supple.  Size 3 is available in 16 yard skeins in 292 solid colors and size 5 is available in 27 yard skeins in 292 solid and 20 variegated colors.

If you want something with a bit more sheen they have a line of satin made with 100 percent rayon that looks beautiful and is available in 60 colors. They also have Memory Thread in  28 vibrant colors. This is a soft fiber wrapped copper wire that can be used for embellishing needlepoint, embroidery, cross stitch and quilting. Memory Thread is also great for paper crafting, jewelry and other general crafts.

Head to the DMC website and see what is new to you today! You will be surprised for sure and you will find way more than threads and cloths. They even have yarns, and being yarn lover, you know I have get my hands on some of their high quality yarns. Plus, you will also find there are projects designed with these great products in mind in case you need some inspiration.
