Berried Secrets by Peg Cochran

I drink cranberry juice a lot! I buy the kind that is just cranberry and water because I love the natural bitter flavor. I didn't really know much about how they were grown or harvested until I got a little insight from Berried Secrets, the first in the Cranberry Cove Mystery series by Peg Cochran. Learning about cranberries was just one cool thing about this fun mystery.

From the back of the book:

It’s cranberry picking time—in an all-new mystery series from the national bestselling author of the Gourmet De-Lite Mysteries…

When Monica Albertson comes to Cranberry Cove—a charming town on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan—to help her half-brother Jeff on his cranberry farm, the last thing she expects to harvest is a dead body.

It seems that Sam Culbert, who ran the farm while Jeff was deployed overseas, had some juicy secrets that soon prove fatal, and Jeff is ripe for the picking as a prime suspect. Forming an uneasy alliance with her high-maintenance stepmother, Monica has her hands full trying to save the farm while searching for a killer. Culbert made plenty of enemies in the quaint small town…but which one was desperate enough to kill?

My thoughts:

This cozy was jam packed with great characters, lots of spunk and quirk to go around. In fact, I think every character was a 'real' character. Monica was a great heroine and I found it refreshing that she even considered her brother might have been guilty at times. I also really look forward to getting to know Greg more in future parts, I have a love of books and bookstores, as you might imagine.

I was pleased to say that while I wasn't certain about it, I did have the real culprit on my short list of suspects. I like when that happens. The story unfolded in a nice page turning pace that kept me up late reading just one more page.  Plus, in the back you will find great cranberry recipes.

Take some time to browse the other great mysteries available from Berkley Prime Crime. While you are there, you can sign up for the newsletter so you never miss a new release. I must warn you though, after browsing my wish list is longer than I could probably read. You can also connect with them on Twitter where can happen across a fun giveaway as well.

Disclosure: I may receive products in exchange for an honest review. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I personally believe will be good for my readers.
