Macaroni and Freeze by Christine Wenger

I do love me some comfort food and as far as comfort food goes, you would be hard pressed to find one more comforting than a proper macaroni and cheese. That brings me to the latest book I read, Macaroni and Freeze, part of the Comfort Food Mystery series by Christine Wagner. This has all the comforts of a cozy mystery and you are sure to love it as much as I did.

From the back of the book:

In the latest from the national bestselling author of Diners, Drive-ins, and Death, Trixie Matkowski finds herself in hot water after a killer gets cheesed off at a celebrity chef....

When the library roof collapses from the harsh winter weather, diner owner and comfort food chef Trixie Matkowski decides to organize a mac-and-cheese cook-off to raise funds for repairs. Priscilla Finch-Smythe, famous TV chef and former Sandy Harbor resident, is not only available to judge the contest—she’s offering an appearance on her show as the grand prize.

Trixie hopes that winning first place in the cook-off will help boost publicity for her Silver Bullet Diner. But when another winner is announced, and Priscilla is later found frozen in a snowbank, Trixie starts getting attention from the police instead. Now she’ll have to noodle over this mystery before everything really goes to pot….

My thoughts:

This was perfect for lazy indoor days during this heat wave, especially since I got to read about the blizzard and chilly weather, reminding me summer is almost over. Trixie and Ty make a fabulous crime solving duo, even if he really wished she would leave it to him. Her best friend ACB is a total hoot! I have actually been blessed to have had such larger than life friends as well.

They mystery centered around Priscilla who was a piece of work in the worst ways which made the suspect list large, even including Trixie herself! It was well paced and filled with lots of humor as well. I really must say I genuinely enjoyed reading this one and found it be a cozy way to spend the day. I look forward to more in this series and will be going back to read the first three parts.

Take some time to browse the other great mysteries available from Berkley Prime Crime. While you are there, you can sign up for the newsletter so you never miss a new release. I must warn you though, after browsing my wish list is longer than I could probably read. You can also connect with them on Twitter where you can happen across a fun giveaway as well.
