I am guessing since you are all so crafty, you have at least heard of the new craze for adult or zen coloring? I have always been the first to jump in and color with the kids. I have always found it extremely relaxing; who knew it would be the next 'thing'. Since it is so popular now, there are fabulous adult coloring books filled with wonderfully detailed pages.
Out of curiosity, I had to check at Leisure Arts, where I get all my instruction craft titles and I was over the moon excited to see they had several titles. Of course, I had to order them all. I eagerly awaited them and the relaxation they would bring!
The first book I opened was Natural Wonders Color Art For Everyone, it has designs with a theme of nature. All of the images were so very beautiful and I settled on a floral one with butterflies. From a design point, I was so happy with care taken by printing these designs on one side only and making the pages micro-perfed so that they are easy to tear out. That makes it super easy to use several mediums for your color.
I decided on colored pencils because I find them flexible and very relaxing. The first day, and every day since, I have spent at least an hour a day coloring. At the end of the week, I am almost done with my first picture and I have noticed that I now have a real easy to tap into stillness. I also feel that my creativity has been enhanced overall even with other mediums, like my yarn arts and creative writing.
Do you miss coloring with your kids? Looking for an easy way to relax and enhance your creativity? I highly suggest you grab your favorite color medium and one of the many tiles available in the adult coloring book section at Leisure Arts.
