One of my favorite cats is back! The Black Cat Knocks on Wood (A Bad Luck Cat Mystery #2) by Kay Finch, is a book I have been eagerly awaiting ever since Hitchcock meowed his way into my heart. I hope you took my advice and read part one, because on June 7th part two will be here, and it was fabulous.
From the back of the book:
The author of Black Cat Crossing is back as mystery novelist Sabrina Tate and her cat Hitchcock find themselves roped into another dangerous murder case...
Sabrina finds it difficult to work on her latest suspense novel when her Aunt Rowe’s antics keep tying up her thoughts. This time Rowe and her fun-loving friends have decided to compete in the upcoming Texas Hill Country Senior Pro Rodeo. The problem is these women have little to no experience with lassos, bulls, or even horseback riding.
Before Sabrina can keep the stubborn seniors from mounting their steeds, she’s sidetracked by a bigger problem. An uppity local business owner is found dead in an accident—right after a black cat was seen in her office. While the townsfolk think the bad luck cat has struck again, Sabrina suspects there might be something more murderous afoot. With a twisted killer on the loose, she’ll have to round up clues quickly before she or her aunt are steered straight into the path of danger.
I may have mentioned last time Hitchcock is a star. I love the subtle ways he helps with the clues. I also have a weak spot for black cats, who I have always found to be sweethearts. I really enjoyed getting to see Sabrina again, as well as Aunt Rowe, who's antics were just as much fun this time as they were last time. I also liked watching the romantic relationship deepen.
The clues were there to solve this one, at least to have the suspect shortlisted as I did. For me the motive was a surprise, and sad. If you didn't read the first part, you can jump in here without getting lost, but really I recommend you start at the start, which was so wonderfully written too. I was happy to see the added bonus in the back of recipes as well. I do love recipes. I look forward to the next part or anything from Kay Finch, she knows how to do cozy right.
