Silk Stalkings (A Material Witness Mystery #3) by Diane Vallere

I always get so excited when I've been with a series since part one. It feels like a visit with dear friends and that is why I was so happy to see Silk Stalkings (A Material Witness Mystery #3) by Diane Vallere in the future releases. I have adored this series since the start.

From the back of the book:

Fabric shop owner Polyester Monroe can get tangled up in textiles, but it’s murder that really throws her for a loop in the latest mystery from the national bestselling author of Crushed Velvet.

The time has come for San LadrĂ³n, California’s annual Miss Tangorli beauty pageant, and Poly has agreed to use Material Girl’s inventory of shimmery silks to create embellished gowns fit for a crown. But when millionaire Harvey Halliwell—the man who revived the city’s citrus trade with his imported tangorli tree—is found dead days before the pageant contestants are announced, something sour takes over the town.

To make matters worse, her friend, mechanic Charlie Brooks, is soon caught up in the crime, having been seen in the company of the case’s prime suspect. Now Poly’s on a mission to squeeze out the truth. But as she searches for a pattern, the killer seems intent on cutting up the evidence.

My thoughts:

This series has character, I mean it! There are so many secondary characters and subplots that I am fully invested in. I would feel torn to pick a favorite. Poly of course is, but of her supporting cast it would be hard. In this part I got to learn a lot more about Charlie, who I love. Then there was Vaughn, and he just melts my heart. I'm not sure how Poly can refrain from wrapping her arms around him- All. The. Time.

This mystery was really a fun one. I kind of figured it out, but I liked how it also revealed a lot about the town and several characters. The layering and depth are so enthralling. I didn't pace myself, I read it all, really quickly, and now I have to wait for the next part. You can start here if you like as it is stands alone, but then you would miss all the fabulous character development, I recommend you read them all. They are fabulous.

Take some time to browse the other great mysteries available from Berkley Prime Crime. While you are there, you can sign up for the newsletter so you never miss a new release. I must warn you though, after browsing my wish list is longer than I could probably read. You can also connect with them on Twitter where you can happen across a fun giveaway as well.

Disclosure: I may receive products in exchange for an honest review. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I personally believe will be good for my readers.
