Mara’s Pasta

Pasta is a staple in my house; we have it several times a week. I have tried a lot of varieties of pastas looking for flavor variations and making an effort to get away from overly processed foods. Sometimes my day can get a bit carbohydrate heavy and I like to try to keep those carbs complex when possible.

I also have a general rule when looking at packaged foods and that is to keep the ingredients list as low as possible; ideally under five ingredients. I consider it to be something special when I find a prepackaged food with only one ingredient!

Mara’s Pasta has one ingredient! 100% whole wheat flour. How awesome is that, no preservatives or additives just whole wheat flour.

I have had whole wheat pasta before and to be honest, in the past I have found it to have an odd texture and very difficult to cook just right. I really was impressed by the texture of Mara’s Pasta which was not at all chewy or grainy. I was equally impressed by how easy it was to cook. It even cooked faster than typical pasta.

The flavor of the pasta was fabulous and unique. I could actually taste the wheat and it was a perfect complement with all of the sauces I used.

We first tried the Rotini in a cold pasta salad with a mix of vegetables and a light drizzle of Italian dressing. I am a huge fan of cold pasta and really enjoyed this dish. Next we tried the Fettuccine with an alfredo sauce because that is such a classic - and I‘ll never pass up a chance to have that. Last, we tried the spaghetti in a baked dish, with a traditional red spaghetti sauce and extra vegetables.

It is easy to taste when things are made with care and fresh pure ingredients.
