Hammock Pack Your Doorstep Getaway

July 22, 2013 is Hammock Day and I like the sound of that! The month has been off to a rough start for me with an unexpected surgery that resulted in an extended hospital stay, to be followed by one more surgery yet to happen. What I really need is a little getaway and the hammock just screams relaxation. 

The hammock  reminds us to slow down, breathe easy and enjoy the summer months. The exact origins are unknown, but it is said that hammocks originated hundreds of years ago in South America. Allegedly, the journals of Christopher Columbus provide the first documentation of the hammock. There are some sources that attribute this invention to the Ancient Greeks. Regardless of the origin, one thing is for sure—hammocks have always been symbols of relaxation.

The June box arrived just before I got ill and allowed me to have a bit of luxury in a dreary time. The theme for June was lake house. I have never taken a lake vacation in the sense of going away to stay, but we have a lovely lake about 15 minutes away that we simply love to spend time at. 

The first item in the pack was a wonderful book that I devoured quickly. 'Where’d You Go Bernadette' is a New York Times bestseller from Maria Semple. It is a cute comedy that is perfect for summer reading. The writing is fresh and original, and the characters are easy to love. 

All Good Lips from Elemental Herbs is a lovely lip-gloss with a hint of color and SPF 18, which makes it perfect for a trip to the lake. It went on smoothly and offered a nice shine with a very subtle hint of color. They are available in six different shades, and I tried a lovely shade called Maroon Creek. 

Blum Naturals Organic Face Wipes have cucumber and Aloe Vera, and are perfect for freshening up, as well as cleaning, and removing the results of a day at the lake. These came in individual pouches, which is great because often when they come in big packets they tend to dry out. 

Big Tree Farms Coco Hydro was a neat packet that allows you to travel lightly but still have refreshing coconut water available. Each packet has the water from two coconuts. They are vegan and gluten free, as well as delicious.

I was very excited to see The Good Bean Roasted Chickpeas in the Hammock Pack because I have been wanting to try these. I really love Chickpeas! They are a light crunchy snack with the added bonus of being high in fiber and protein. I love snacks that are delicious and that I don’t have to feel guilty about eating. These are a great travel/vacation snack for when you need a little pick me up.
