Holiday Gift Guide - For Her - Project DIY

So, I don't know about you guys, but I am ridiculously picky when it comes to jewelry. If I don't like a certain aspect of a piece, I don't buy it. Since I am so picky, it is really hard for me to find a piece of jewelry that I love all the way around. That being said, I also really like to do crafts. These two things combined make Project DIY perfect for me. Project DIY is a monthly subscription box that provides you with the materials you need to make your own custom jewelry pieces! Project DIY was launched just this year by M&J Trimmings of New York City's Garment District. This months inspiration was Joan of Arc. Let's hop right in!

When I first opened the box I was completely surprised at how nicely everything was packaged. This month included supplies for two pieces of jewelry which were both individually packaged in their own box. The cuff came in a beautiful maroon velvet bag. Included in my kit was also a starter kit which featured three different kinds of pliers and a baggy full of jewelry repair and replacement parts. You can choose to subscribe with or without the starter kit, though, I think it is a great little kit to have!

November's box included supplies for a Warrior Cuff and a Shield necklace both inspired by runway fashion and Joan of Arc. Both of the pieces were very easy to make, taking about 30 minutes a piece, and the materials given to you are very high quality. Nothing about this box felt or looked cheaply made. Though they do provide you with pictures, you don't have to make your pieces exactly like the ones they have on display. Don't like the gem on the necklace? Just don't put it on there! Want a more complex design? Add more trimmings! I love how everything is in it's most stripped down state so you have full control over how your final piece looks. I love being able to take away what I don't like and add things in that I do like.

My final pieces turned out a little different than the ones they showcased in the pictures. I preferred the large gem on the bracelet instead of the necklace and I liked the idea of the darker 'flower' trimming wrapping all the way around the cuff. Overall, I think the idea is very unique and could appeal to a lot of different women. I like that everything you need, except a pair of scissors, is provided, even the glue. The only downfall I see is that the step-by-step instructions are provided to you in a free app available in the App Store. If you don't have a device capable of downloading apps, you won't have step-by-step instructions. The designs are easy enough to follow without them though.

Subscribing to the box will run you $30 with free shipping. Each month's box will contain supplies for two to three pieces of jewelry and you can choose to get the starter kit with your first box. When you break it down each piece of jewelry will cost you just $10-$15 which is far less expensive than any other piece of custom jewelry I have ever come across. Be sure to follow M&J's Project DIY on FaceBook, Pinterest, Twitter, and Instagram to stay up to date on all the latest Project DIY news!

Disclosure: I may receive products in exchange for an honest review. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I personally believe will be good for my readers.
