Red Heart Reflective for Halloween!

I know it is a bit early for Halloween but if you are like me and always have twenty projects on the go, you need some extra time to finish them. This year I wanted to make something for the grandkids that would be cute and also keep them safe while they were out on Halloween.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw the lovely Neon Orange Reflective yarn was a pumpkin hat! I knocked this up really fast and hope you enjoy it as well. I use an H hook and this is Bulky 5 yarn.

Start with a magic circle and DC ten times for round one, join with a SLST.

Round 2 DC, FPDC in each stitch (20)

Round 3 DC in each DC and DC, FPDC in each FPDC (30)

Round 4 DC in each DC and DC, FPDC in each FPDC (40)

Round 5 DC in each DC and DC, FPDC in each FPDC (50)

Round 6 DC in each DC and DC, FPDC in each FPDC (60) I took a picture of this round and realized it looked exactly the same just one row bigger LOL.

Round 7-12 DC in each DC, FPDC in each FPDC (60)

Round 13 SC in all (60)

The stem, vines, and leaf are all made together.

Round 1: Ch 2, make 5 SC in the 2nd chain from hook, do not join, continue working in a spiral (5) for the next 3 rounds, total 4 rounds of five SC.

Ch 15, 2 SC in 2nd chain from hook, 3 SC each chain back to start, SLST in the next stitch on the bottom of the stem.

Ch 13, 2 SC in 2nd chain from hook, make 3 SC each chain back to start, SLST in the next stitch on the bottom of the stem.

Chain 9 turn and SC across (8) turn and crochet as follows (each space is separated by a comma) 1DC, 2DC, 2DC, 1DC, 1HDC, 1SC, 1SC, 1SLST, ch2 and crochet opposite side as follows (each space is separated by a comma) 1SLST, 1SC, 1SC, 1HDC, 1DC, 2DC, 2DC, 1DC. Use the yarn tail to sew the stem onto the hat. Weave in all ends.

Disclosure: Red Heart provided the yarn to make this awesome project. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I personally believe will be good for my readers.

  4. It may be awhile before my girls get this good and can make things like this. Not sure they understand all these abbreviations either.
