Pups and Purr-Sonalities To Paint from Leisure Arts

I have always wanted to be a great painter. However, I am not. My mom is a talented artist when it comes to sketching and my brother is as well. My brother is even a decent painter. When I paint it looks like hot mess of colors that could resemble something. However, I never give up and wanted to expand my craft skills to include some paint embellishments.

Pups and Purr-Sonalities To Paint from Leisure Arts was a purr-fect solution for me. With this fabulous book you do not need to know how to draw, nor do you need to be a great painter, in order to embellish your crafts with some adorable furry friends.

You will find a variety of 15 pup and kitties to choose from and instructions on everything from surface preparation and brush selection to transferring techniques and finishing. Plus, everything in between. I really loved the tips on spattering and shading. For someone like me with no real skills, it was great to see the basic ideas laid out like that.

There are projects ideas, like a tote bag and a canvas with detailed instructions and in the back of the book, there are the transfers you can print out because, like I said, I can not draw! I wish I had been feeling better sooner because the Scaredy Cats design is awesome! I will make it next Halloween for sure!

You all know how much I love my little yellow dog Cleo and there is a design in here called Good Ol’ Dog (pictured here) that will make a perfect project for her. I’ll just change the collar color from blue to pink. I am super excited to be able to give painting another chance and I think with this great book I can’t fail.

Have you tried painting before? I’d love to hear about your painting crafts. Take some time to browse Leisure Arts' great selection and make sure you also connect with Leisure Arts on Facebook and Twitter so that you never miss a special or new pattern! Also, if you sign up for their knitting or crochet newsletters, you get a free pattern on Fridays!

Disclosure: I may receive products in exchange for an honest review. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I personally believe will be good for my reader.

  1. Now this is something I could have fun with, now if I could just squeeze in the time to actually do it.

  4. I see a Hound Dog picture that can be painted. I think this is so adorable and being able to paint him would be awesome. I used to paint items a long time ago.
